Candace was living in a drafty camper with her 2–year–old son. They didn’t have electricity or running water and, to make matters more challenging, she was pregnant with twins, one of whom she knew would not survive because of a birth defect.
As Candace said, “I felt completely hopeless. I had no job, a 2–year–old to take care of and twins on the way. My children’s father was incarcerated, so I was on my own to take on all of this. I was scared...”
